IHunter hunting app
In my opinion iHunter App is one of the best I have found for the amount of information and useful features. Yes there is a subscription fee; however if you want a direct link to the WMU hunting regs, aerial photography which is up to date, the ability to mark stands, have the app track you on all trails, and have a visual representation of where your trails go on your property or on crown land this is the app for you. It shows you private land, crown land and many other layers. I have provided some screen shots of some of the features so you get an idea of what I''m talking about. It's also handy for locating property lines or corners of your lot. it shows you where you are in relation to property lines etc. I use this app quite a bit and have found it to be well worth the annual fee.

A must have tool
A handy take along tool whether you're camping, hiking, hunting or fishing. You never know what situation you may find yourself in; tree across a trail while quadding, branches sticking out on the path while hiking, or find yourself hurt or having to stay the night in the bush. These arborist saws are a handy tool. Store it in your pack on your side by side, one day it'll come in handy. You could quickly build a bush lean to, cut firewood, downed trees. You can pick them up at Canadian Tire , Sail Outdoors Stores or your nearest Arborist supply store.

Leatherman Multi Tool
A Leatherman Multi tool must have for any outdoors person, male or female. I've carried one on my belt for over 20 years. It goes with me everywhere, and has saved me while on the job as a Forestry Technician in Northern BC, removed numerous fish hooks from fish, gutted deer, moose, ducks, fish, cut wire, worked on motors, removed screws, tightened screws. It truly is a remarkable tool. When I'm at work ,o r out fishing other people come to me to borrow it constantly. My only question is , "Why doesn't everyone carry one?" Pick one up at your local sporting goods store; you'll be glad you did, oh and they are guaranteed for life!
Turkey Season Is Coming....
Turkey season is around the corner, well its definitely coming. What are your go to ammunition/choke tube suggestions. I for one love the Winchester Long Beard XR loads. You don't have to use a turkey choke with these shells, however you still can. These shells deliver twice the number of pellets in a 12 inch circle up to 60 yards. Check out Winchester Long Beard XR shells the next time you go to buy some ammunition; you won't be disappointed.

Browning Dirty Bird Knife
If you're looking for a good little knife for either hunting or fishing this is one well constructed knife, and holds a very sharp edge. It is available in both a fixed blade and a folder. I use mine constantly for everything.
Leupold 1.25-4.0 VX-R rifle scope....
The leupold VX-R 1.25 -4.0 fibre optic red dot scope, with adjustable intensity is one awesome little scope. Most hunters go with a 3-9 scope, but what they forget to consider is when hunting deer, bear or moose in Ontario a lot of your shots are under 100 yards. With the lower number and the fibre optic redicle it allows for quick target acquisition and no need to find your cross hairs in low light situations. Just put the dot on the animal and pull the trigger. With the zoom to 4.0 this allows easy target acquisition up to at least 200 yards; what more do you need? This is one awesome scope, with excellent eye relief, clarity is amazing, and guaranteed for life. Check it out at your local Sail Store in Ontario, they retail for around $859.00
Tikka T3 Battue...An excellent gun for Deer and Moose hunting in Ontario
The Tikka T3 Battue is an excellent gun for hunting in Ontario. This gun is made for quick target aquisition and is short, light and an awesome go to choice; especially if you want a gun with open sights. It sports a long rear sight with fibre optic sights on either side of the rear sight, and a fibre optic hooded front sight. The gun is available in either a wood or synthetic stock, and my personal choice would be .308 I would have no problems carrying this and confidently making shots up to 150 yards, which covers off most of the situations you will come across in Ontario. They retail for about $859.00 and can be purchased at Sail stores in Ontario.
Spring Black Bear Hunting In Ontario
Well finally the Ministry of Natural Resources has come to their senses. It only took an overwhelming number of human/bear conflicts, cottages being broken into, who knows how many calf moose being predated before they woke up. We own 500 acres in northern Ontario, 30 years ago we never saw bears nor did we see any sign of bears. They were there just not the numbers we currently have. Our moose population was very healthy but gradually over 20 years that population has dropped off also, lots of cows and bulls but not that many calves. In order to manage populations of wildlife, you first need to have accurate information on populations, and you also need to realize what is adversely impacting those populations. I might also add that the decline in moose population is not directly linked to hunting as being successful for an adult tag is virtually impossible. So the ministry continues to issue calf tags, in order to continue to collect revenue. This on top of black bear predation on moose calves leaves minimal success of calf moose to reach adulthood. Lets hope that better management of our natural resources starts to occur in the near future.

Sail Sporting Goods Coming To Oshawa
There's a new Sporting Goods Store coming to town sportsfans. Thats right Sail is opening a store in Oshawa Ontario. Opening the first of December. Everything I've heard, and seen this is going to give outdoors enthusiasts one more place to shop; and all of their employees are experienced in the departments they are employed in............fantastic! Their prices are more than competitive, their products are all top notch and they are always having sales and other great incentives..........Here's the link to their information; check out their catalogue online, but remember this is only a small portion of what they carry, and the prices in the catalogue are not necessarily what you'll pay in store.......sometimes much lower. http://www.sail.ca/

Moose Hunting 2010
Well my 2010 moose hunting season has come and gone. It was a beautiful week, fairly mild temperatures, not too much rain, full moon, and crisp mornings. It felt good to get out and experience the bush, spend time with family friends and fellow hunters. Although we weren't successful, I did have an encounter with an eleven point buck that was priceless. I had just arrived at my stand for the morning and noticed a fresh deer bed right where I was going to stand. Within minutes I caught a nose coming around a large Hemlock to my left, I remained motionless and this huge Whitetail emerged broadside at 15 yards. he was dark, huge, and had a sticker tine about 8 inches off his left side. He very cautiously continued to get closer; all of a sudden he stopped and looked directly at me, he knew there was something there, he just couldn't figure out what it was, he dropped his head and quickly raised it again trying to catch me. We played this game for about five minutes, I never moved. At the closest point he was 10vyards away, this moment made my hunt, even though I never saw a moose. It's great to experience such a magnificent animal in his domain.
