Magnetewan 2nd Annual Wild Game Dinner

The 2nd annual Magnetewan Lions Club Wild Game Dinner was once again a huge success. The menu consisted of Moose, Bear, Venison, Turtle Soup, Rabbit Stew, Fish, Turkey.....it was all awesome! Over 200 people attended the event and a good time was had by everyone. A great big thank you to all the individuals and businesses who donated items for the silent auction and raffle. And one great big thank you to everyone who put in countless hours in the preparation of a great meal.

Where are all the Turkeys?

On my way to work on the opening day of the Turkey season, I observed one of the most comical moments. As I passed a local gas station, I observed a guy in full turkey regalia filling up his Chevy pick up. I then realized that it was opening day for Wild Turkey. Now this is when the comical side comes in; I turned the corner and drove about 3/4 of a kilometre, and there just inside the roadside fence was Old Mr' Tom strutten his stuff.........I'll never know if the two met, but it was almost like the wise old turkey was getting the upper hand.

Turkeys .......

Well I've noticed that the local Turkey population is doing quite well. I've noticed numerous birds, out in the fields and roosting in trees along some of the back roads. I don't think the population is hurting in the least bit. It should be a really good year for local hunters in and around Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes.
